Former England midfielder Adam Lallana believes Lee Carsley is the best candidate to succeed Gareth Southgate as manager on a permanent basis.

Lallana was part of Carsley’s coaching staff with England Under-21s last season, so he knows what the former Everton midfielder is capable of doing in a team.

The 50-year-old is hoping to produce enough results to persuade the Football Association to appoint him permanently.

Lallana told The Times in a column that Carsley is not the stolid, relentless pitbull he was when he was a player when he became a coach.

“However, as a coach, he is not like that at all. He has a soft side, he is caring and, simply put, he is someone you want to fight for and do well for,” he said.

“That includes the players and staff, and having been lucky enough to work under him with England Under-21s last season, there is no doubt in my mind that he is the ideal man to succeed Gareth Southgate in the long term.”

The midfielder, who returned to Southampton in the สมัคร ufabet summer, will take up a coaching role under Carsley in September 2023.
